Breeding and racing costs
Breeding Costs
Denman Bloodstock predominately raises foals to sell as yearlings. We allow for between $18,000 and $23,000 per foal in costs in order to achieve a profit at the time of sale(this excludes the stallion service fee).
We also advise clients on purchasing weanlings with a view to sell them as yearlings(known as pinhooking). We allow for between $9,000 and $16,000 in additional costs once the weanling is purchased in order to achieve a profit.
Racing Costs
Racing thoroughbreds can be a enjoyable and exciting experience for thoroughbred owners. The costs associated with racing horses is approximately $28,000 per year for 100% ownership of a thoroughbred racehorse, which translates to $2,333 per month(excludes the purchase of the racehorse).
We suggest purchasing shares in racehorses along with friends and associates as it is unlikely that you will make a profit when racing a thoroughbred race horse. A group of friends or strangers can enjoy thoroughbred ownership on a social level regardless of the performance of the racing stock.
Anyone who is interested in getting involved in thoroughbred ownership should contact our office to express their interest.
